Discovering Avignon: A Journey Through History

As we stepped off the train, we knew we were in for a treat. Avignon, a city in southeastern France, is a place filled with rich history and culture. Our first stop was the iconic Pont Du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge that has stood the test of time for over 2000 years. The bridge’s intricate water system is still operational today and is a true testament to the brilliance of the Roman architects who built it. The sound of the 400 liters of water per second surrounding the bridge was a sight and sound to behold.

Next, we visited the Palace of the Popes, the biggest Gothic palace in all of Europe. As we entered, we were handed small tablets that contained the history behind the palace that we could listen to. The view from the top of the Palace of The Popes was breathtaking, with a panoramic view of the city that left us speechless.

Throughout our three-day trip, we learned so much about the city’s fascinating history. We explored the streets filled with shops selling amazing clothes and, of course, the famous lavender and soaps. We couldn’t resist buying some lavender soap, which we highly recommend.

Avignon is a true gem, a city that has preserved its rich history and culture, making it a must-visit destination for any traveler.
